The odd human powered moving absence of lot #12 (urban follie)

Queens, NY / Model scale 1:5 (100cm x 50cm)

A follie, a structure with no predefined purpose other than resembling ideas of exotic landscapes in ruins, could serve as a device of displacement, from images, actions, ideas to intent. In that spirit, it is impossible not to relate these actions to the modern urban explorations of Gordon Matta Clark. His fake states give us the chance to bridge the past, where purposeless abandoned land lots became something else, appropriation and ownership for pleasure before purpose. The work becomes a new displacement, where 40-year-old discoveries documented and measured will serve to reconstruct the ruins of those actions into a new purposeless follie driven by the same motivation that did 400 years ago. The de-contextualization of a modern urban follie, intending to capture and preserve the soulful of those actions, from a distant past and not so distant geography.
